The history of Newcastle City Hall

Newcastle City Hall opened its doors in 1929 and has remained one of the city’s most recognisable and admired buildings ever since. Designed by acclaimed architect Henry Eli White, the hall was built in a Classical Revival style and has hosted countless civic events, cultural celebrations, and special occasions over the decades. 

Its iconic clock tower has become a prominent feature of the Newcastle skyline, reflecting the city's rich and varied history throughout the 20th century and beyond.

Weddings at City Hall 

Looking for a wedding venue that’s full of character and style? City Hall is a favourite for couples who want something special. From small, intimate ceremonies to large-scale receptions, there’s a space here that’s just right.

  • Concert Hall – With its soaring 14-metre-high ceilings, grand chandeliers, and polished floors, this space sets the stage for unforgettable moments. At 382 square metres, it can accommodate 120 to 270 guests and is ideally suited for a seated dinner or a lively reception.
  • Hunter Room – Perched on the top floor, this room offers beautiful views over Civic Park through its arch windows. The Hunter Room is 200 square metres, ideal for up to 100 guests, and has a private bar, dance floor, and plenty of natural light.
