Fort Scratchley temporary closure

Fort Scratchley will be temporarily closed from 18 May 2025 for approximately three weeks while we carry out essential works to replace the historic bridge.

We apologise for any inconvenience and look forward to welcoming you back soon with improved access and the same stunning views.

Fort Scratchley occupies a commanding position guarding the entrance to the Hunter River, arguably one of Newcastle's most spectacular vantage points.

Please note: No animals are permitted inside Fort Scratchley grounds excepting registered campanion animals.

Fort Scratchley is located in Newcastle East and has spectacular views over Nobbys Beach and the Hunter River.

Opening Hours

The Fort Scratchley Historic Site is open six days a week, 10am to 4pm with last entry at 3:30pm (closed Tuesdays). General admission to Fort Scratchley is free.

Accessibility

Fort Scratchley Historic Site can be accessed by people with a range of mobility issues but it should be noted that there is uneven ground on site.

Time Gun Firings

The 1pm time gun fires every day the Fort is open, subject to weather.
