Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes is pleased to announce that Jeremy Bath has accepted the role as Newcastle City Council's Chief Executive Officer after Council endorsed his appointment Tuesday evening.
Mr Bath was appointed to the interim role in April this year and since commencing in May has guided the organisation through a range of critical projects while increasing the organisation's focus on customer service, community engagement and collaboration with local, state and federal agencies.
“Jeremy has proven his ability as a collaborator and negotiator to achieve great outcomes for the city and the organisation," Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said.
"His vision and willingness to make decisions during the past seven months has laid a foundation that staff have responded to with enthusiasm and action.
"This is an incredibly exciting time to be living in Newcastle. As an organisation, we need stability to deliver our vision for the city and Mr Bath's appointment provides this. Not just for Council's staff, but also for our stakeholders and ratepayers."
Mr Bath said he is excited by the promise of continuing a program of reform which started seven months ago within Council.
“I believe with all my heart that Newcastle is the greatest city in Australia. We have a stunning coastline, café culture, plenty of open space, and a culture of innovation.
"We unashamedly challenge people to dream big, but only because we know what Newcastle is capable of.
"During the past seven months that I've been a part of Newcastle City Council, we have embraced the opportunity to make decisions that are changing the city for the better.
"Council will continue to undertake a program of change, to drive transformation, and to grow our city in a way that enhances prosperity for everyone.
"And most importantly, we will continue to make decisions that are in the best interests of the entire city," he said.
