Council Meetings

Council meets to discuss, debate and make decision on issues of public importance. The role of the governing body includes to direct and control the affairs of Council and provide effective civic leadership.

Our Council Meetings are governed by the Code of Meeting Practice.

Public attendance and online viewing of Council and Committee of Council meetings

Council encourages the community to participate in City decision making. Members of the public are able to attend the meetings in person in the Council Chambers at Level 1, 12 Stewart Avenue, Newcastle West or watch the proceedings of meetings live online. Past meetings are also available for viewing.

Meetings of Council are live streamed and recorded. To view the livestream, open the meeting link below and click the "LIVE" button. To view a recording, open the meeting link beside the camera icon in the Media column below.

Agenda and Business Papers for Council and Committee of Council meetings

Business papers for Council and Committee of Council meetings are available on our website ahead of the meetings, no later than the day before the meetings take place.

Committee Meetings

Development Applications Committee

The Local Government Act 1993 (Act), and other relevant legislation, authorises Council to undertake a range of functions by way of delegations and authorisations.

The Development Applications Committee, which is a committee of the whole established by Council under section 260 of the Local Government (General) Regulation 2005 (NSW) has the delegated authority to determine development applications under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (NSW) (subject to limitations in Schedule 1) and certain conditions.
