Development Application Notices

In accordance with the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and/or City of Newcastle's (CN) Community Participation Plan the below proposed development applications fall into one or more of the following categories and therefore are notified for community awareness.

  • Designated development;
  • Nominated integrated development;
  • Threatened species development;
  • Class 1 aquaculture development;
  • Potentially hazardous or potentially offensive development; or
  • Demolition in Heritage Conservation Area.

Interim Heritage Order Notices

14 Sunderland Street, Mayfield

  • A notice in the NSW Government Gazette was made by City of Newcastle on 1 March 2024 to place an Interim Heritage Order (IHO) on 14 Sunderland Street, Mayfield.
  • A preliminary assessment undertaken by Council’s heritage consultants concluded that the property at 14 Sunderland Street, Mayfield meets the criteria for local heritage significance and the lodgement of the Class 1 Appeal constituting a threat of harm to the property, should the appeal be upheld.
  • The effect of the IHO is to prohibit demolition or alteration of the property at 14 Sunderland Street, Mayfield until 1 March 2025. During that time Council will undertake a detailed heritage assessment, determine if the place should be listed as a heritage item under Schedule 5 of the Newcastle Local Environmental Plan 2012, and prepare a planning proposal if necessary.

22 Victoria Street, Mayfield

  • A notice in the NSW Government Gazette was made by City of Newcastle on 15 March 2024 to place an Interim Heritage Order (IHO) on 22 Victoria Street, Mayfield.
  • A preliminary assessment undertaken by Council concluded that the property at 22 Victoria Street, Mayfield meets the criteria for local heritage significance and the approval of a Complying Development Certificate (CD2024/00071/CDC-004-2004) for the 'Demolition of the existing dwelling and outbuildings' constituting a threat of harm to the property.
  • The effect of the IHO is to prohibit demolition or alteration of the property at 22 Victoria Street, Mayfield until 15 March 2025. During that time Council will undertake a detailed heritage assessment, determine if the place should be listed as a heritage item under Schedule 5 of the Newcastle Local Environmental Plan 2012, and prepare a planning proposal if necessary.

Proposed lease for Townson Oval

City of Newcastle is inviting comments on a proposed lease to Merewether Carlton Rugby Club over multiuser clubroom with bar and ground floor gymnasium.  The proposal is for a term of 18 years.  

The grant of the lease is subject to Division 2 of Part 2 of Chapter 6 of the Local Government Act 1993.

Proposed Lease for Café

City of Newcastle is inviting comments on a proposed lease to a hospitality operator for the fitout and operation of a café at Blackbutt Reserve (123 Lookout Road New Lambton). The proposal is for an initial term of 5 years, with a 5-year option. 

The grant of the lease is subject to Division 2 of Part 2 of Chapter 6 of the Local Government Act 1993.

Proposed Lease for Café

City of Newcastle is inviting comments on a proposed lease to a hospitality operator for the operation of a food and drink premises at Shepherds Hill, 41 The Terrace, Newcastle (Lot 3116 DP 755247). The proposal is for an initial term of 5 years, with a 5- year option. 

The grant of the lease is subject to Division 2 of Part 2 of Chapter 6 of the Local Government Act 1993.

Strategic Planning Notices

Planning Proposal - 505 Minmi Road Fletcher

Public exhibition has commenced for a planning proposal to amend the Newcastle Local Environmental Plan (LEP) 2012 for land at 505 Minmi Road, Fletcher.

This planning proposal has been lodged to amend the LEP for land at 505 Minmi Road, Fletcher. It seeks to rezone land from C4 Environmental Living to part R2 Low Density Residential and part C2 Environmental Conservation. The planning proposal (also known as a rezoning) intends to change the zoning of the land to allow approximately 150 lots between 300–450m2 for low density dwellings.
