Council update 1 May 2018

Following is a summary of the Ordinary Council meeting for Tuesday 1 May 2018. NB: it is not a record of resolutions.

Lord Mayoral Minutes

A Lord Mayoral Minute to note the NSW Government's new Low Cost Loan initiative and explore opportunities to apply for infrastructure loans under it to enable new housing, was supported.

Council reflected with sadness on the passing of Mr Peter "Walmo" Walmsley, the former long-term manager of Newcastle Ocean Baths and commended him for 43 years' service as an officer of Newcastle City Council.

Council marked today as International Workers' Day or Labor Day and reaffirmed the city's commitment to the safety of every Novocastrian worker.

Council received the regular report.

Exhibition of Draft 2018/19 Our Budget and draft 2018/19 Fees and Charges Register

Council endorsed the draft 2018/19 Our Budget (the combined 2018-2022 Delivery Program and 2018/19 Operational Plan) and the draft 2018/19 Fees and Charges Register for public exhibition for 28 days.

Youth Council Annual Report 2016/17

Council received the annual report from the Newcastle Youth Council, which allocates grants for Youth Week events.

Cities Leadership Institute membership report

Council approved continued membership of the Cities Leadership Institute, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to strategic action on urban issues.

Exhibition of draft Newcastle 2030 Community Strategic Plan

Council endorsed a draft of the revised Newcastle 2030 Community Strategic Plan to be placed on public exhibition for 28 days.

Sanctuary Estate, Fletcher - Amendment to Newcastle Local Environmental Plan 2012
Council endorsed a proposal to begin the statutory process to amend zoning, building heights, floor space ratios and heritage maps for land within Sanctuary Estate Fletcher.

Notice of Motion - Protecting the City of Newcastle's Heritage
Council resolved to establish a Newcastle Heritage Working Party to implement and update Council's Heritage Strategy and identify areas for possible inclusion as Heritage Conservation Areas.
