Park and Ride for a hassle-free New Year's Eve
25 Dec 2017
Newcastle's highly successful Park and Ride service will operate on New Year's Eve to help revellers travel to and fro Council's spectacular Neon New Year 2017 celebrations at Queens Wharf.
The buses will run on a continuous loop from McDonald Jones Stadium from 4.30pm, dropping passengers at the corner of Scott and Watt Streets at the former Newcastle Train Station.
Council CEO Jeremy Bath invited those attending the celebrations to take advantage of Council's Park and Ride service for a hassle-free night.
"We want to make it as easy and convenient as possible for the community to access our New Year's Eve celebrations," Mr Bath said.
"Park and Ride is a free, safe and easy transport option, and Council greatly appreciates the support of Revitalising Newcastle in sponsoring this service.
"With the fireworks capping off the night at 9pm, the last bus will run from the old Newcastle Train Station at 10.30pm to give families plenty of time to make their way back to the bus stop."
Council took the decision to operate Park and Ride on New Year's Eve following the success of the daily service since it was founded in a partnership with the NSW Government in November amid widespread disruption in the city.
"The service has helped city workers save money on parking and spared them the daily stress of finding a car park during this time of change and renewal in the CBD,"Mr Bath added.
More than 6,500 users have registered for the service, which is used by around 120 people each day.
Park and Ride will continue as free service until 25 January and then cost just $2 a day from Monday 29 January.
