Updated weather warning
15 July 2020
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for damaging surf along the NSW Coast, which may pose risks to Newcastle’s coastline.
Last night and this morning large swell conditions caused significant erosion along the coastline, including Stockton. These conditions are expected to continue overnight and subside throughout the day on Thursday.
City of Newcastle has closed sections of road on Mitchell Street, Stockton, including between Flint Street and Stone Street and between Hereford Street and Pembroke Street. This will be reviewed on Thursday and modifications will be made to closures as required.
Several accessways to Stockton Beach will also remain closed until the safety of the community can be assured. This will be reviewed daily following the weather event.
The Mitchell Street and SLSC Seawalls and emergency stabilisation measures continue to provide protection, but people should stay away from the beach until conditions subside.
To stay up to date on the weather warnings, please follow the Bureau of Meteorology www.bom.gov.au, and for emergencies, the State Emergency Services at www.ses.nsw.gov.au or phone 13 25 00.
