Christmas Operating Hours

Some of our facilities and services will have changed hours of operation over the Christmas and New Year period.

City Administration Centre - Closed from midday Tuesday 23 December 2025, reopening on Monday 5 January 2026.

Customer Service Centre (phone enquiries) - All customer service operations will be closed for the festive period from midday on Tuesday 23 December, reopening on Monday 5 January. For urgent matters, including those relating to public safety that require urgent attention, please call 02 4974 2000 for 24-hour assistance. 

For all other requests and issues please complete an online request form.

Waste Collections - All kerbside bin services will take place as usual on public holidays, with the exception of Christmas Day.

There will be no bin collections on Christmas Day. All services falling on Thursday 25 December and Friday 26 December will take place one day later than usual, as outlined below.

All regular bin services will resume from Monday 29 December 2025, with collections undertaken as usual on New Year's Day.

Summerhill Waste Management Centre - Landfill operating hours are as follows:

• Christmas Day: Closed
• Normal weekdays: 7.30am - 4.45pm
• Weekends and other public holidays: 9am - 2.45pm

Our Waste Administration office will be closed from midday on Tuesday 23 December 2025 until 8am on Monday 5 January 2026. We will be closed for phone enquiries during this period. 

'Tis the season to recycle! Follow our guide for working towards a zero-waste Christmas, and make use of our Sort & Save service at Summerhill Waste Management Centre to recycle your excess cardboard boxes, bottles and cans. This service is free for Newcastle residents who pre-sort certain wastes by material type before they arrive. Visit our Sort & Save page for details.

Newcastle Libraries - Branches will close from midday on Tuesday 23 December 2025, reopening on Monday 5 January 2026. Returns chutes will be closed at all branches (except Lambton). However, due dates will be extended beyond the closure period - so there's no rush to return your items.

Newcastle Museum - Will be closed Tuesday 23 December, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Visitor Information Centre - Operating hours are as follows:

• Wednesday 24 December to Friday 26 December: Closed
• Saturday 27 December to Monday 29 December: Open 10am - 2pm 
• Tuesday 30 December: Open 9.30am - 4.30pm
• Wednesday 31 December: Open 9.30am - 2pm
• Thursday 1 January: Closed
