Draft Planning Agreement and Explanatory Note - 53 Weakleys Drive Beresfield
City of Newcastle (CN) has received an offer from Beresfield BESS Pty Ltd to enter into a planning agreement (PA) associated with the Beresfield Battery Energy Storage System (Beresfield BESS). The NSW Government approved this State Significant Development Application (SSD-31940756) in December 2023. It can be viewed on the NSW Government’s Planning Portal.
The draft PA proposes a monetary contribution of $37,485 (ex GST) to fund broad community benefits, such as social infrastructure, in the area surrounding the BESS project site.
CN proposes using the monetary contribution to fund the Beresfield childcare (Beresfield Community Children’s Education Centre) energy efficiency upgrade project at 6 Milton Street, Beresfield which may involve:
- Installation of 26.6kW solar panel system on the roof
- Replacement of two aged hot water systems
- General energy efficiency upgrades including smart light switches.
