Delivering sand for Stockton

The NSW Government and City of Newcastle are working to restore sand to Stockton Beach and revitalise this much-loved stretch of coastline for the Stockton community.

Progress on sourcing sand for Stockton is ongoing. The NSW Government has taken the lead to deliver 130,000 cubic metres of sand for initial amenity sand renourishment.

The Stockton Beach Taskforce, which was chaired by Minister for the Hunter, the Hon. Yasmin Catley, was established to drive the implementation of sustainable long-term solutions to the coastal erosion issues for Stockton Beach. Alongside the Chair, members included City of Newcastle Lord Mayor, and representatives from the Worimi Aboriginal Land Council, Department of Regional NSW, Department of Planning and Environment, Port of Newcastle, NSW Coastal Council, and the Stockton Community Liaison Group. The Stockton Beach Taskforce was dissolved in November 2024, when a new Stockton Special Advisory Panel was established, chaired by State Member for Newcastle Tim Crakanthorp MP.
