Mitchell Street seawall
We are delivering a range of emergency repairs and long-term works to help manage, maintain and preserve Stockton's coastline.
The Extended Stockton Coastal Management Program (CMP) outlines a series of short and long-term actions. These actions include construction of more protection structures, which are required to shield the shoreline and reduce the chance of inundation during large swells.
The Mitchell Street buried seawall was constructed and finalised in 2024 with the inclusion rock bag structures extending 50 metres south, towards The Pines (as seen in the photo above).
The rock seawall was built in 1991 and covers 600m of coastline. We are currently working through designs for a renewal of the rock seawall which is scheduled for construction in March/April 2026, with overall project delivery anticipated by late 2026.
This vital upgrade is focused on ensuring the ongoing structural integrity and functionality of the rock seawall for its intended 100-year design life, significantly increasing its resilience by accommodating for climate change effects and future sea level rise.
