Get it right on bin night

Help us to service your bins on collection day

  • Have your bins on the kerb by 5am on your collection day. If that sounds a bit early for your liking, you can put them out the evening before.
  • Place your bins close to and facing the kerb, with the handles/wheels towards your property.
  • Try to space your bins one metre apart. This allows the mechanical arm on our collection trucks to reach in and pick up your bins.
  • Avoid placing bins near—or behind—parked cars, trees or poles. Again, try to leave one metre of clearance.
  • Don't place your bins under low-hanging trees or powerlines, or any other overhead obstructions. We need to raise your bin high to tip the contents into the truck.
  • Don't overload your bins. Our trucks can't lift bins if they're too heavy.
  • Don't overfill your bins—the lid should be able to close. Overflowing bins can create litter.
  • Don't place extra items on top of, or next to, your bins. Additional items will not be collected.
  • Don't compress the contents of your bin, such as stomping on it to fit more in. This often causes jamming and prevents your bin from fully emptying. Bulky items, such as cardboard boxes, can be folded or cut into smaller pieces before placing in your bin.
  • Put the correct wastes in each bin. If our drivers identify contamination, you'll need to remove the non-complying items before we can service it.

After your bins have been emptied, please remove them from the kerbside as soon as possible and store them within your property boundary until your next collection day.

Bin placement in a dead-end street

  • Dead-end streets: Your street may be serviced as a one-sided collection. Place bins along one side of the street only. Don't place bins or park cars at the dead-end of the street.
  • Court bowls (cul-de-sac): Place bins on the straight section of the street only. Keep the bowl of the court free of bins and parked cars.
  • Hammerhead streets: Place bins on the straight section of the street only. Keep the hammerhead free of bins and parked cars.
